What is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency?
A Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) is a business authorized by the US Postal Service to accept mail correspondence on behalf of businesses and individuals. Once received, it is a CMRAs responsibility to forward or otherwise redistribute that mail according to its client’s wishes.
As a CMRA in California, we take your mail seriously, and have designed our services to make your life easier.
Benefits of using a CMRA
P.O. Boxes are limited in ways that a CMRA isn’t. Here are a few reasons many business owners are making the switch:
Privacy and professionalism.
As an authorized CMRA, our services include a USPS-verified street address with a unique suite number at our Sacramento location. This verified address adds more legitimacy to your business when you list it on state filings, business cards, and your business website.
Stability and convenience
For business owners who work remotely or travel frequently, our services create a stable and legitimate business address that you can rely on. You won’t see crucial business mail get lost in the system, and you’ll receive same-day notifications and digital scans of your documents to your own secure online account.
Cost control
Our mail forwarding and virtual office services include more perks than your typical P.O. box, but carry a similar price tag. You’ll get a real business address and digital mail management for a fraction of the cost of a typical office lease.

Hiring Registered Agents of California as your CMRA
Step 1. Choose one of our California address services
The first step to hiring Registered Agents of California as your CMRA is choosing which one of our services aligns with your business needs. Each plan includes a business address, your very own online account, and free junk mail filtering. Here are your options:
Mail scanning — from $49/yr
- Free Mail Scanning: 3 document scans per day (available to registered agent clients)
- Basic Mail Scanning: 10 scans per day, plus a unique suite number ($49/yr)
- Premium Mail Scanning: 25 document scans per day, plus a unique suite number ($99/yr)
Virtual Office — $19/mo
- Unlimited daily mail scans
- Board room available for rental
- A month-to-month lease for verification
Step 2. Complete USPS Form 1583 from your account
Form 1583, Application for Delivery of Mail Through Agent, must be filed to the USPS to verify every suite number issued by a CMRA. We aren’t a fan of extra paperwork, so we’ve done the work to make the process as simple as possible.
- After you’ve signed up for our mail scanning or virtual office services, log in to your account, and we’ll collect all the necessary information to complete Form 1583 for you.
- Provide your digital signature and two forms of ID, such as a driver’s license or voter registration card
- That’s it! As a CMRA, we’re authorized to use our own in-house verification process to double-check your form, then file it on your behalf.
Step 3. Start receiving mail
Once approved by the USPS, you’re free to use your new address anywhere you need. We’ll log and scan any mail we receive on your behalf, and notify you the same day. Need the original copy sent to you? Request physical forwarding with just a few clicks.
